Our "backpack ministry" began in January 2014 and has evolved and thrives! This ministry, now dubbed Panda Pantry in honor of the Frederick Douglass Elementary mascot, is committed to providing weekend meals for school-age children who otherwise would not have enough (or anything) to eat when school-subsidized meals are not available. 

Christ Church partners with Frederick Douglass Elementary School in Winchester to provide non-perishable and easy-to-prepare food for 51 children each week, which is bagged at church and sent home with kids via the school . The packages contain simple but nutritious items for each child to have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day during school-year weekends.

Panda Pantry was initially funded by the Outreach Committee through your generous pledged contributions to Christ Church. As we continue this exciting ministry to provide for children in our own backyard, it is our hope that our congregation’s contributions in time and treasure will help our efforts to continue into many future school years and serve even more children.
